US-based Cosemi has introduced the world's first hybrid active optical data line (hAOC) that supports the USB 3.1 Gen.2 standard, providing 10 Gbps of transmission bandwidth over distances of up to 50 meters.
The data line uses optical fiber to transmit data, copper wire is used for control and power supply, self-powered, no external expansion box or repeater, simpler and more reliable, and optical fiber transmission data can better protect against electromagnetic and radio frequency interference. Special occasions such as medical care are essential.
There are many options for connectors, including USB-A/USB-A, USB-A/USB-C, USB-C/USB-C, the first is AC, and of course backward compatible with USB 3.1 Gen.1, USB 2.0 .
It is worth mentioning that this data line does not use PVC polyvinyl chloride, because the material will produce toxic gases when burned, which does not meet the wall-in-line cable specifications in many places.
Cosemi is piloting the new data line, which will be mass-produced in March. The specific price has not been announced, just that the comparison of the USB expansion box solution will be very competitive.
